Who We Are
ODENOH—Development Organization for a New Haiti—is a Haitian organization committed to helping communities build a more sustainable, resilient, and economically secure future.
Our work is rooted in a simple belief:
Haitian communities have the knowledge, creativity, leadership, and determination to develop solutions to the challenges they face.
Our role is to help strengthen that capacity, connect communities with resources and partners, and support practical models that can grow over time.
Our Story
ODENOH was established by Haitians who recognized the urgent needs facing communities across the country.
The organization was originally envisioned to work in areas including health and water, sanitation, and hygiene. Those programs did not develop into sustained areas of operation. Over time, ODENOH's work evolved toward the area where it found the strongest opportunity to contribute: environmental sustainability, community development, agriculture, and economic opportunity.
That evolution continues today.
ODENOH is increasingly focused on the connections among environmental challenges, livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and community leadership.
We see these issues not as separate problems, but as opportunities to develop integrated, locally led solutions.
Haitian Leadership
ODENOH is rooted in Haiti.
Our leadership, community relationships, and implementation work are grounded in local knowledge and experience.
We believe international partnerships are most effective when they strengthen—not replace—local leadership.
We therefore work with Haitian communities and organizations while building relationships with international nonprofits, foundations, businesses, technical partners, and others who share our commitment to sustainable development in Haiti.

We favor approaches that people can see, use, measure, and improve.
Connect Environment and Livelihoods
Environmental protection is more sustainable when communities can see its relevance to their health, livelihoods, and economic future.
Put People in the Lead
Women, youth, farmers, entrepreneurs, and community members are not simply recipients of services. They are participants and leaders.
Learn and Grow
We want to develop models that can be tested in one community, strengthened through experience, and adapted to others.
Partnerships
ODENOH works through partnerships that expand local capacity and connect Haitian initiatives with additional resources, expertise, and opportunities.
Our partnerships include local institutions, community organizations, schools, businesses, and international organizations.
Among our partners is Home Roots Foundation (HRF), a U.S. based 501(c)(3) grassroots organization that works with Haitian partners to mobilize resources, develop programs, document results, and support opportunities for expansion.
Looking Ahead
ODENOH is building toward an organization that can contribute to Haiti's environmental and economic future in both urban and rural communities.
We envision a growing portfolio of practical models in:
circular economy and waste reduction, conservation and agroforestry, climate resilience, green enterprise, and sustainable livelihoods.
Our ambition is not to be everywhere.
It is to develop approaches that are useful, credible, community-owned, and capable of being replicated.
